WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A ROUND BRUSH

What to look for in a round brush?

1. Boar bristles
Boar bristle brushes are great for smoothing out all hair types - thin, thick, straight, curly or wavy. They can also give you a great wave or curl without damaging your hair like a metal brush can, metal brushes can get so hot while blow drying

2. Long bristles that aren't too far apart
I personally prefer brushes with longer bristles because your hair glides through the brush more easily than with short bristles. You want the bristles to be closer together because it will catch more hair in the brush when you run it through your hair. This smooth's it more quickly. I love having the perfect brush for blow drying, combing wet hair (wide tooth comb) and brush dry natural hair. This round brush is recommended for blow drying not normal use as the bristles aren't very head friendly, can be a little painful. I will be blogging a little later about the other brushes, for now I will love you and leave you, toodles xo

MY HAIR GRIP KIT

Hairstylists can be very particular and even obsessive about their tools. We watch over our own tools like guard dogs, literally! because the good clips, brushes and pins can disappear at fashion shows and other chaotic scenes all too quickly.

So, here are a few of the tools I always keep in my kit, specifically the only hair clips I use for work. Here are just clips but I will be posting more on brushes and styling tools.

Large Butterfly Clips - Keeps hair in place and out of your face durable, high quality plastic with easy grip handles and rounded teeth help prevent breakage.

Strong Hold Sectioning Clips - Very easy to use croc sectioning clips to securely hold hair in place during styling they come in good use in the process of styling hair.

Bobby Pins - So like yeah, so where do I start... I would be completely lost without these little bad boys they are life savers and are at the top of the list with all the best inventions. I don't think I need to talk anymore about bobby pins... they talk for themselves.

My next buy - They look strange and interesting, spotted them online, I will be adding these to my hair grip kit! The plastic on them prevents creases which is great for photo shoots or setting waves in place without using tissue paper to prevent creasing. Ciara was spotted clipping back her long locks with our Leaf Clips while getting ready for the premiere of her movie. Also Kim Kardashian and Gisele Bundchen were both spotted rocking No-Crease Bow Clips and now my clients will be spotted in these beauts!

HOW TO MAKE STRAIGHT HAIR CURLY

Cuties how are you? I'm not sure whether I was exactly ready for this bitterly cold weather after coming from 35 degree heat last week, uh huh my summer tees have drowned to the back of my wardrobe and my winter woolly's are out. Relaxation time has come to an end busy working and early nights is really taking over my life, work never ends. I decided to chop my hair from Rapunzel to just over my shoulders with a few layers at the front for shape, and yes seen as I'm a hairdresser I did cut my layers myself.  Beginning to miss my long hair but I'm pretty sure I will have my long locks back within no time seen as my hair luckily grows super fast! Talking about hair here are tips on how to make straight hair look more natural when curled. Your haircut plays a big part when it comes to styling, if you plan to wear your naturally straight hair curly more often than not, choose a mid length or longer layered cut. Layers add texture, creating the illusion of “thick hair” (more for waves), since they stack up on one another.

How to style it: Use moisturising shampoo and conditioner. Hydrated hair holds its style, while hair that’s dry falls flat. Towel dry hair (don't rub, just pat) and add a small amount of mousse, then blow dry with a medium size round brush. Working in two inch sections, lift hair from one side of your head to the other as you dry, focusing the air on the roots. This technique, called over directing, builds volume. Finish by winding portions of hair around a medium-barrel curling wand or tongs, then setting the curls with lightweight hair spray. (Skip the spray if your hair is fine as the mist will just weigh it down.)

WINTER HAIR AND BEAUTY TIPS

Dropping temperatures and cold winds don't have to go hand-in-hand with frizzy hair and dry, dull skin. Don't miss my top winter hair and beauty tips to maintain healthy hair this winter, keep your hair moisturised and gorgeous, even when the weather isn't.

Dry ends
Heat styling and dried-out hair aren't exactly the best of friends, but it's tough for most of us to resist reaching for the styling tools, especially when we have a party we need to look fabulous for. Heat styling products encourage split ends remove all those damaged ends by getting them cut off as soon as they appear.

Dry skin/scalp
Even though nothing seems more comforting than a steaming long, hot shower, it is the fire way to dry out your skin even faster. Also ecouraging dandruff! Avoid long, hot baths too, and make sure to pat skin dry afterwards instead of rubbing with a towel, which can strip skin of its natural moisture barrier. This also applys for hair girls, remeber to only pat your hair dry do not rub your hair with a towel as this causes frizz. After showering don't forget to moisturise - apply while skin is still damp.

Feed Your Skin
Certain foods can help your skin glow from the inside out, so make sure you eat plenty of oily fish like salmon and tuna (high in omega-3 which help plump up skin's collagen production), spinach and avocadoes (high in vitamin E, which protects skin from UV rays and cell damage) and vitamin C-rich foods like tomatoes and citrus fruits (they'll help keep wrinkles away). Sugar won't be doing any favours for dull winter skin, so get snacking on seeds and nuts for a zinc boost, essential for preventing rashes and unwanted skin.

Hope you all will look after your hair this winter! if you have any questions feel free to email me. I will be back soon to share more winter hair and beauty tips. goodnight beauts xo

PLAID

Whether checked, tartan, plaid or houndstooth, we'll all be walking straight into Fall 2013 with a wardrobe of plaid jackets, dresses, trousers, scarves and more. Plaid is making its way back onto fashion catwalks this season; this classic pattern will never get old and I’m so glad to see it popping up on different pieces for winter. See the best plaid looks from this seasons runways. I was partly confused by this seasons runway collection, which contains tons of  what they refer to ‘Refugee’ bag pattern, or more specifically, the Chinatown plaid. Why not mix this preppy classic with a leather jacket and quirky shoe boots for a look that's less school girl, and more cool girl. Whether it be a skirt, trousers or coat, make sure to get some plaid into your wardrobe this season.

ps: I will be posting mixture of hair and fashion posts.
