H&M Design Award 2013 – the winning collection by Minju Kim at H&M and Opening Ceremony

Completely adore Minju kim new collection at h&m, have you seen her pieces though? The winner of the H&M Design Award 2013, Minju Kim, she has developed pieces from her collection with H&M to be sold at selected H&M stores this autumn. Minju has such a unique design signature, one that combines playfulness, fantasy and great creativity! Inspired by the Japanese horror manga artist Ito Junji. The monsters and haunted eyes of Junji’s drawings evolved in a process of fantasy thinking. Through use of pastels, tactile textures and childlike proportions, the clothes become a cuddly take on horror. Block colours with edgy designs be sure to stand out in the crowd and slightly oriental feel that threads its way through the pieces. Kim has certainly brought something a little different to the fashion table. The collection will be available from 17th October at selected H&M stores around the world as well as online. Make sure you get your hands on these beautiful pieces, despite prices ranging from £19.99 - £149, from the fabrics that feel like a step above the H&M norm to the way the pieces are cut to evoke the sense of playfulness in Kim’s imagination.

HOW TO AVOID COLOUR FADE

Hey girls! its been a while since I sat down and wrote a huge blog post like this. Hope you have all been well and looking after your hair!
So recently I've been receiving a handful of messages asking how to maintain hair colour so I decided to do a blog post on this particular topic, I really do apologise for writing such a loooooong post. Grab yourself a cup of tea and biscuits before you continue reading! ;)

So girls let me get started once you have coloured your hair, it is important to maintain a hair care routine. It is important to have a hair care routine, why? so that your hair remains healthy looking all the time. Are you sick of having colour fade after just a week? Do you look in the mirror and feel your heart sink as soon as you notice your roots? Well don't worry girls! Here's how to have great hair colour for longer.

When you dye your hair, try get it professionally done from the hairdressers, the chemicals they use are professional hair colouring products. Hair colour sold in drugstores contain aluminium, which coats the hair and prevents the colour from holding well, kind of like one coat of paint which tends to come off after a while. But if you do opt for box dye then don't just go for the cheapest! Why? Because in the long run, you might spend a few more pennies, but the colour will stay vibrant longer. Also, think about your lifestyle. Can you do your roots every 4 weeks or 8 weeks? If you can't always get a root re-growth colour in time, choose a shade closer to your natural colour so it won't be as obvious when your roots start to show. Before colouring your hair, deep condition it a week before the colour. What is a deep conditioning treatment? Apply conditioner to wet hair, put a shower cap on or a plastic bag, leave on for 1 hour then wash as normal. This can help the hair colour grab onto your strands, preventing discolouration and fading.
As an extra bonus your hair will be protected from the colouring chemicals, and hair will be less likely to break off during the colouring process. Also, let the natural oils from your scalp work their magic. Washing your hair at least a day before you get your hair coloured will help to protect the hair shaft and helps to prevent fading much like deep conditioning. If you have darker hair, choose a gloss shampoo and conditioner close to your preferred shade. This will liven up your hair and give back its shine. After dyeing your hair, Do not wash it for two whole days. This may seem hard, but you can get a shower-cap to wear while showering or use batiste (dry shampoo). Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and chemicals in pools or hot tubs. The UV rays from the sun can dry out any hair colour, making it look dull and lifeless. If you are out in the sun, be sure to apply a light coat of conditioner before going out. The same goes for pools and hot tubs that contain chlorine which can dis colour hair. Apply conditioner or oil to your hair to lessen the effects of chlorine, or tie up longer hair. When rinsing out dye, or washing your hair, avoid using hot water and just before you step out rinse your hair with cold water. This helps keep colour longer.

So girls I think I've covered virtually everything on how to maintain hair colour for longer! If you still have any questions feel free to email me hairbyzara@live.co.uk. Fireworks will be sparkling this week as I will be launching my new hair line on my facebook fan page and on here so keep your eyes pealed! Catch you all later ladiess <3

CONDITIONING TREATMENT

How are you all getting on? The cold weather is kicking in, I can now say its okay to wear winter woollies, although it does start to become a little warm through the day. Completely itching to get my fur goodies out, big lover for fur fur fur! Just thought I'd do a mini step by step on how to apply a conditioning treatment, this treatment is very good for damaged and split ends. These kind of treatments are pricey at the salons so here's my home made quick and easy conditioning treatment!

LOVE AT FIRST CUT

Bobby pins, hair tugging, backcombing and lots of hair spray in the air this week. Hectic is an understatement, due to school holidays couples are quickly squeezing their weddings in before September. I shall be posting clients pictures soon! Oh quick note dry hair cut offer is still on! Also my new Hair by Zara line will be launched in a few tick tocks, few more pieces to the jigsaw *twiddling my thumbs*

LOVE HEART EYES *fashion*

ALL ITEMS ABOVE ARE FROM ZARA

Completely adore this seasons colour white, especially any form of black and white stripes! My heart melted when I saw these cute "high heel sandal with ankle strap" from Zara, super cute and stylish! Above are some images of gorgeous black and white clothing and accessories, which I loveee!

I have a little crazy hair experiment for you! Next time you wash your hair, grab a strand and drop it into a for glass of water. If the strand immediately sinks to the bottom, then your hair is of high porosity (healthy). If it floats somewhere in the middle with ease, then it’s of normal porosity. If it seems to stay at the top, taking forever to sink downward, then your strands are of low porosity (very damaged). Have a lovely day everyone, off to style my brides hair now. Exciting!

ALCOHOL HAIR PRODUCTS

Many hair care products contain alcohol. Alcohol acts as a preservative, helping products last longer on store shelves. While alcohol has some benefits, it also damages hair, making it appear dry, flaky, dull and lifeless. Longer shelf life is among the many reasons manufacturers add alcohol to hair care products. Alcohol is used as a preservative because it evaporates quickly. The problem is that when it evaporates, it takes a bit of your hair's moisture with it. Alcohol is also added to thicken hair products, keep them from foaming and protect them from microbes.

SHORT CHAIN ALCOHOL
Short-chain alcohols include ethanol, propyl and isopropyl alcohol. Ethanol is typically found in hair sprays. Due to a low molecule weight, these alcohols evaporate quickly and are used in hair care products to decrease the time it takes for hair to dry. You have approximately 100,000 hairs on your head. Each hair is protected by a cuticle, or outside layer, which protects the inner layers. When the cuticle gets dry, it causes the inner hair fibres to fray, making your hair appear dry and frizzy. Not all alcohols are bad for your hair.

FATTY ALCOHOLS
Fatty alcohols, or long-chain alcohols, such as stearyl and cetyl actually help to hydrate hair. Fatty alcohols are added as a moisturiser in hair care products. Hair looks smoother and softer because the cuticles are weighed down. If used in excess, these fatty alcohols combine with the natural sebum on the scalp, forming a sticky substance that makes hair appear greasy. No matter the products you are using, give your hair a chance to breathe. Avoid washing your hair a couple days a week. This helps to keep your hair shiny, bright and moisturised. When hair is wet, it stretches, making it more vulnerable to cuticle damage and breakage. If you need to wash your hair every day, try using a mild shampoo. If you have curly or dry hair, avoid washing your hair every day, as washing causes it to appear even more dried out.

Sorry for blabbing on so much, but FINALLY below I have listed which hair shampoos contain which particular alcohol.I have explained everything in the most simple way possible, feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Head and shoulders shampoo - benzyl alcohol.
Pantene shampoo - Cetyl Alcohol, high alcohol content and panethol. Pantene has actually been proven to make women lose their hair faster.
